Mac Bride Community Nursing Unit is situated in beautiful grounds, on the bank of the Carrowbeg River, in Saint Mary’s Crescent in the heart of Westport. It opened in the mid 70’s and over the years the services provided has changed to meet the changing needs of older people. Today it provides twenty-four-hour nursing care for older people who don't need to be in hospital but can’t be cared for at home, it also provides respite care and day care facilities under the management of the HSE.

The unit has thirty-seven long-term care beds and two respite beds to provide for the people of Westport and surrounding parishes.

The spiritual welfare of the residents is looked after by the Westport priests.  Mass is celebrated on one day during the week and on Saturdays.  The Sacrament of the Sick is celebrated with and for the the residents on a montly basis and on other occasions when necessary.
