Welcome

Archbishop Michael NearyA word of welcome from Archbishop Neary

You’ve just entered the website of the Westport Parish and I am delighted to welcome you here! I hope as you make your way through the site that you will begin to appreciate that this is a vibrant place in which the Gospel is not only preached but lived in visible and practical ways too.

There was a time when parish life seemed to revolve around the Church and the priests. While this is still so, lay people, Religious, and priests now work closely together in reaching out to parishioners in their particular situations and in turn welcoming all to the Church for the celebration of the sacraments – most especially the Sunday Mass. You will notice that in the Parish of Westport this close co-operation finds expression is all sorts of different ways from membership of the Pastoral Council to involvement in sacramental preparation, and from Mission Outreach to Ecumenism, and all kinds of different things in between. There’s something for everyone – but all with one purpose: “that you may have life and have it to the full.” (Jn. 10:10)
