Fr Karl Burns is from the parish of Dunmore, Co Galway. Fr Karl is the son of Frank and Noreen Burns, the eldest of three children, he attended Logboy National School and Dunmore Community School.

Fr Karl studied for the priesthood in St Patrick's College Maynooth. He was ordained in The Church of our Lady and St Nicholas, Dunmore on Pentecost Sunday, June 11^th, 2000 by Archbishop Michael Neary.

Fr Karl was first appointed as curate to Moylough. In 2002, he was appointed as chaplain to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar. From 2006 to 2010, he served as Adm of Parke.

In July 2010, Fr Karl was appointed as curate to Westport.
