FR. PATRICK BURKE R.I.P.
Curate in Westport Parish and Pastoral Co-ordinator of Clare Island and Inishturk.
It is with great sadness that we learned of the sudden death on Monday 25 June of our colleague Patrick Burke, priest of Tuam Archdiocese and curate in Westport Parish and Pastoral Co-ordinator of Clare Island and Inishturk.

FR. PATRICK BURKE R.I.P. - A TRIBUTE
The parishes of Westport and Kilmeena celebrated with great joy last weekend the ordination of Fr. John Regan. As part of the ceremony Fr. Patrick placed the stole on the new priest, a symbol of his Liturgical and Pastoral ministry. Little did anyone realise how symbolic his final Liturgical act would become. Fr. Patrick who was so faithful to God and to his people has gone home to the Lord whom he served so well, may he be kindly rewarded.
Fr. Patrick gave of himself so generously to this parish (Westport, Drummin, Lecanvey and his beloved Clare Is. and Inishturk) over the past very full and action packed two years. Every gift Fr. Patrick had he used to its full potential to journey with those he ministered to in such a deep yet unassuming way.
Patrick was a man deeply comfortable within himself, which enabled him to deal with any situation in a most unassuming, relaxed like manner, even the most complex and traumatic situations. The amount of ground that Patrick covered was remarkable and so many are left with cherished memories for which they will always be grateful for.
Fr. Patrick was due to leave us in three weeks, but his departure this week is so different and unimaginable. He is sorely missed by so many. Patrick’s Irish teacher from CBS, Tuam phoned the parish office on Thursday; it was ironic as Betty had not heard that Fr. Patrick was being moved to the Gaeltacht. She said “he was an excellent student and he was the main man responsible for Tuam CBS winning the very first Seachtain na Gaeilge award”. He compered a football match as gaeilge for Radio na Gaeltachta at sixteen years of age. Maith thú Padraig.
In your prayers remember Patrick’s family, his parents, brothers, sisters-in-law, niece and nephews, as well as his extended family.
Sincere thanks to all who in so many ways have been of comfort and practical assistance over the past long week. Your kindness and support is deeply appreciated. May the Lord keep Fr. Patrick close and support all who grieve at this time. Solas na bhFlaitheas dó i measc na Naomh.
