AID TO THE CHURCH IN NEED: WEEK OF WITNESS

NOVEMBER 16TH - 23rd

World Day of the Poor reminds us that service to those most in need is at the heart of the mission of the Church. Today, the papal charity Aid to the Church in Need also begins a ‘Week of Witness’ highlighting the plight of those persecuted for their faith. It’s a sobering reality that today one in seven Christians suffer persecution because of their faith in Jesus.  On Nov 19th ‘Red Wednesday’ wear something e.g. a ribbon, a scarf, a tie’ a jumper’ a coat or jacket to show solidarity with the suffering Church and to remember the blood lost by Christians in defence of their faith.

REMEMBERING THE POOR. ST VINCENT DE PAUL: Annual Appeal:

Drawing near to the poor in our midst will touch our lives. It will remind us of what really counts: to love God and our neighbour. Only this lasts forever, everything else passes away. What we invest in love remains, the rest vanishes. Today we might ask ourselves: ‘What counts for me in life? Where am I making my investments?’ In fleeting riches, with which the world is never satisfied, or in the wealth bestowed by God, who gives eternal life? This is the choice before us: to live in order to gain things on earth, or to give things away in order to gain heaven. Where heaven is concerned, what matters is not what we have, but what we give.  Pope Francis. “Remember we do what we can because you give what you can”

ROSCOMMON SOLSTICE CHOIR CHRISTMAS SPECIAL:

A Fundraising event for repairs to Holy Trinity Church. Please give your support. Thank you.

CARE OF CREATION – WESTPORT ECO CONGREGATION:

The high-level Conference of Parties (COP30) is in progress in Belem, Brazil right now (10th – 21 November) It continues 30 years of global climate talks, focusing on forest protection, indigenous leadership, climate education, and stronger emission cuts. The Laudato Si’ Movement and Trócaire are represented there, to highlight the urgency of the climate crisis and amplify the voices of faith communities living out Laudato Si’ in many ways across the world – including here in our own parish.

Recently, Pope Leo XIV reminded us that ‘there can be no room for indifference or resignation’ when it comes to the climate crisis, each of us are called to act.  Our daily choices, made with awareness and mindfulness, can make a huge difference within our families, communities and our world, in highlighting the urgency of the climate crisis.

PLEASE REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS:

Noreen Jennings, Westlands

Fr. Jim Staunton, Melbourne & late of Kilmeena

Marie Dawson, Dublin, sister of Denis Murphy, Lecanvey

Cathal Walsh, Carnalurgan

Brian Kelly, Fr. Angelus Park.

Rest in peace
