New Coast Guard Station Westport
A new, state-of-the-art Irish Coast Guard station in Westport, Co. Mayo. Located at Westport Quay, this 890.4sqm facility supports a 24-volunteer unit with a modern two-storey station, boat shed, and equipment storage for maritime rescues. Official Opening ceremony for the new Irish Coast Guard Station at Westport Quay, County Mayo, on Saturday March 7th, 2026 at 11:00am. The Official Opening will be performed by Minister Seán Canney, TD.

‘We pray for them all the time’ – Gena Heraty on the people who kidnapped her in Haiti last year
Irish charity worker Gena Heraty has said she “prays all the time” for the men who kidnapped her in Haiti in August 2025. It has been four months since the Mayo native was held hostage from August 4 to August 29 in Haiti, where she works as an aid worker, supporting adults and children with special needs.
