  • Pilgrim's Notes | Westport Parish

Pilgrim's Notes • add + David, Hope, and Mary 23 November 2025 2:30 p.m. We are visiting Ireland for the first time from Pennsylvania, USA. Our visit to Westport was lovely. Climbed Croagh Patrick not quite knowing what we were getting into. What an adventure! Felt like a great accomplishment. How about St. Patrick 40 days on the mountain... water? Shelter? Must have been a powerful, prayerful experience. Definitely felt like a Holy experience connecting to God, St. Patrick, and all the pilgrims who went before us. We were blessed to participate in this special tradition. Read More Ciara Burns 18 October 2025 9:00 a.m. Have been wanting to do this walk for a while..visibility wasn't great but it was lovely to reach the summit and say a wee prayer at the chapel. Read More Geraldine Kilkelly 28 September 2025 10:05 p.m. It was a beautiful day and thankful I climbed today. When I was 40 min in I thought oh this is so hard I could turn back. Then I remembered this is an old pattern of mine saying I can't do it and 3 hours later I reached the top. Thank you. Read More Nia Burgess 24 September 2025 10:03 a.m. I've been struggling to understand God, faith, and christianity in general for a long time now. I'm still unsure of exactly what I believe, but experiencing Croagh Patrick inspired me and filled me with peace. I can feel the spirit of everyone who's made the climb before me, as if we're all here at once, and all connected. I came to Ireland in hopes of finding true solitude and quiet, and Croagh Patrick has more than filled that need. I feel a sense of rest here, as if something outside of me, bigger than me, is keeping me safe. I'm filled with gratitude for the people who fought to preserve this mountain, and that I was able to see this beautiful view. My wife has had a little surgery in the last month but, despite my worries, powered up to the summit. She did wonderfully well. What a wonderfully well maintained walking route to the summit. It was very disappointing to find the doors of the Church closed. I so wanted to go in, say a prayer and have a rest. Everyone else who arrived with us was of the same opinion. I do think that this is something which needs to be looked at, in these times when things are difficult for the Church. John Kelly Read More Lisa and Bernie 10 August 2025 11:07 a.m. We feel elated! The views from the peak are a reminder of life’s vastness and the opportunities that lie beyond the horizon, waiting for us to take that leap of chance. Good health became more than a wish; it felt like a responsibility—to care for ourselves, for one another, and for the Earth that holds us all. And as the wind carried prayers whispered by generations before, it felt like a collective yearning for peace on Earth, a dream we still hold dear, no matter how distant it may sometimes seem.
