CATHOLIC BISHOPS’ PASTORAL LETTER WELCOMING MIGRANTS TO IRELAND: On Sunday 13 October 2024, the Bishops of Ireland published a pastoral letter to welcome migrants to Ireland. As Christians, we have a responsibility to respond to the key question of immigration across our island, and the world. This fundamental question asks, "Who is my neighbour?", and to answer this we are informed by the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke10:29-37). In the light of the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching, our bishops offer this reflection on what hospitality for migrant people means in contemporary Ireland.Mindful that migration has been a central part of our history, the Pastoral Letter provides a space to US as migrant pilgrim people' to contemplate the causes of migration, the gifts that migrants bring to our Church and our country, the economic and social issues we all face in lreland, and the importance of encounter in building a true sense of belonging in every parish and community. PLEASE AVAIL OF A COPY OF THE FULL PASTORAL LETTER AT THE BACK OF THE CHURCH. - The blessing of Animals • an Ecumenical Ceremony 🙏👍
This afternoon (05 October 2024), despite the overcast skies and occasional drizzle, a heartfelt ecumenical ceremony took place at Murrisk Car Park in honor of beloved animal companions. Led by Fr. John Kenny and Reverend Suzanne Cousins, the Blessing of Animals ceremony saw local residents gather in prayer and unity to celebrate the bond between humans and animals. Despite the not-so-ideal weather, spirits remained high as attendees brought their pets, ranging from dogs and horses to smaller creatures, for a special blessing. The event highlighted the joy and gratitude people have for the animals that bring love and companionship into their lives. During the ceremony, celebrants gave a poignant reflection on the love for animals expressed by Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment. - Pilgrims of Hope 2025
This is the social media picture/poster for our Pilgrims of Hope 2025 promotion. More to follow... A Pilgrim's Prayer As Pilgrims of Hope in the Jubilee Year 2025, may we walk with Faith, Hope and Love. Illuminate our path, inspire our hearts and strengthen our resolve to spread Your compassion and kindness. Help us to take each step as we journey towards a brighter tomorrow. Christ be with us. Amen. Logo for the 2025 Jubilee " The logo shows four figures stylised to indicate humanity coming from the four corners of the earth. They are embracing each other to indicate the solidarity and brotherhood which joins the peoples. The figure at the head is holding onto the cross. It is not only the sign of the faith which embraces, but also of the hope which can never be abandoned because we are always in need of hope, especially in moments of great need. It is helpful to observe the rough waves underneath; this indicates that life’s pilgrimage does not always move in calm waters. Life’s circumstances and the events of the world often demand a greater call to hope and because of this we see that the lower part of the cross has been turned into an anchor which stands out in the wave. As is well known, the anchor has often been used as a metaphor of hope and as a matter of fact, the anchor of hope is the name used in maritime jargon as the name given to the reserve anchor used by vessels involved in emergency manoeuvres to stabilise the boat during storms. Do not ignore the fact that the image demonstrates that the pilgrim’s journey is not individual, but communal and marked by a growing vitality leading one always closer to the cross, which is itself by no means static, but also dynamic. It turns towards humanity, not leaving it alone but going out and meeting it to offer it the certainty of its presence and the sureness of hope. Finally, the motto of the 2025 Jubilee Year: Pelegrinantes in Spem (Pilgrims in hope), is very visible in green." Discover the Jubilee 2025 >

- Saint Marys Church Westport County Mayo • Bells • Fixing Corrosion
The video depicts the severe corrosion of the fixing bolts that support the bells at Saint Mary's Church in Westport, County Mayo. The corrosion was previously concealed behind timber damper plates located on top of the bells. The extent of the corrosion became apparent when one of the timber plates decayed, revealing the deteriorated fixings inside. This deterioration posed a significant risk as some of the bells, weighing over a ton, were on the verge of falling. This video explains the gantry system used to rehang bells at Saint Marys Westport . If you ever wonder how the bells are played, watch this video: Gabriel Kelly , Ringing the bells in Saint Mary's Church, Westport, County Mayo, Ireland. Filmed sometime in 2007 by Tom Kenny

- Visit of the Relics of St. Bernardette of Lourdes to The Cathedral of the Assumption, Tuam
"Bernadette Soubirous (/ˌbɜːrnəˈdɛt ˌsuːbiˈruː/; French: [bɛʁnadɛt subiʁu]; Occitan: Bernadeta Sobirós [beɾnaˈðetɔ suβiˈɾus]; 7 January 1844 – 16 April 1879), also known as Bernadette of Lourdes, was the firstborn daughter of a miller from Lourdes (Lorda in Occitan), in the department of Hautes-Pyrénées in France, and is best known for experiencing apparitions of a "young lady" who asked for a chapel to be built at the nearby cave-grotto. These apparitions occurred between 11 February and 16 July 1858, and the young lady who appeared to her identified herself as the "Immaculate Conception". After a canonical investigation, Soubirous's reports were eventually declared "worthy of belief" on 18 February 1862, and the Marian apparition became known as Our Lady of Lourdes. In 1866, Soubirous joined the Sisters of Charity of Nevers at their convent in Nevers where she spent the last years of her life. Her body is said by the Catholic Church to remain internally incorrupt. The grotto where the apparitions occurred later went on to become a major pilgrimage site and Marian shrine known as the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, attracting around five million pilgrims of all denominations each year. Pope Pius XI beatified Bernadette Soubirous on 14 June 1925 and canonized her on 8 December 1933. Her feast day, initially specified as 18 February – the day Mary promised to make her happy, not in this life, but in the other – is now observed in most places on the date of her death, 16 April." you can continue reading following this link CLICK

- THE DEANERY OF WESTPORT ...
A little historical read... THE DEANERY OF WESTPORT. Parish of Westport. The prominent place of the parish of Westport in the ecclesiastical history of the archdiocese, and indeed in the ecclesiastical history of Ireland, is unquestioned. There is some doubt about St. Patrick having visited other parishes and other districts, but there is none about his having visited the parish of Westport. On his western journey he went north to Rahins near Castlebar, and then, turning to the southwest, he passed by Aughagower to Cruach-an-Aigle, which was the ancient name for Croaghpatrick. At the foot of the mountain, in the plain of Mutrisk, and between the mountain and the sea, his charioteer Totmael died, and there St. Patrick buried him and raised a cairn of stones over his grave. Then, on Shrove Saturday, the Saturday before Ash Wednesday, he ascended the mountain, and during the whole forty days of Lent he was engaged in fasting and prayer on the lonely summit of the hill. If scenery could bring him pleasure he ought to have been well content; for there was a wide stretch before him, even on the land side, and westward there was the limitless sea with Clew Bay and its myriad islands at his feet. On Cruach-an-Aigle his prayers were long, his fasting severe, his sufferings from wind and rain and cold and lonely vigils not easy to be borne. But he persevered, obtaining from God the favour that the faith of Ireland would never fail. from: HISTORY of THE ARCHDIOCESE OF TUAM By THE RIGHT REV. MONSIGNOR D'ALTON 1928 You can read the entire Chapter XIV by following this link:
