WESTPORT ECO CONGREGATION:

Is encouraging the community to make small changes during PLASTIC FREE JULY. Buying plastic-wrapped or packaged fruits and vegetables can be convenient, but unfortunately it creates plastic waste. Instead, consider looking out for loose fruit and vegetables in your local grocery store, or head to a farmers’ market where plastic packaging is less often used. It’s also worth asking if you really need a bag at all. For example, if you’re buying a bunch of bananas, consider keeping them loose in your shopping basket or trolley and transport them home in your reusable shopping bag?

POPE BENEDICT XVI’s PRAYER FOR GRANDPARENTS:

Written at the request of the CGA in 2008.

Lord Jesus, you were born of the Virgin Mary, the daughter of Saints Joachim and Anne.Look with love on grandparents the world over.Protect them! They are a source of enrichmentfor families, for the Church and for all of society.Support them!  As they grow older, may they continue to be for their familiesstrong pillars of Gospel faith, guardians of noble domestic ideals, living treasuries of sound religious traditions.Make them teachers of wisdom and courage, that they may pass on to future generations the fruitsof their mature human and spiritual experience.

Lord Jesus, help families and societyto value the presence and role of grandparents.May they never be ignored or excluded, but always encounter respect and love.Help them to live serenely and to feel welcomedin all the years of life which you give them.Mary, Mother of all the living, keep grandparents constantly in your care, accompany them on their earthly pilgrimage, and by your prayers, grant that all familiesmay one day be reunited in our heavenly homeland, where you await all humanityfor the great embrace of life without end.  Amen!
